Angel Food Cake Recipe

Angel Food Cake Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring

Directions for Angel Food Cake

Sift sugar.  Add half the sugar to the flour and sift twice.  Beat the egg whites and salt until foamy, then sprinkle the cream of tartar over whites and continue beating until they are stiff, but not dry.  Repeat this folding process until the flour-sugar mixture has been added.  Add flavoring before the last addition of flour.  Pour into an ungreased tube pan.  Bake at 275 degrees for 30 minutes, then raise the temperature to 325 and continue baking for 30 minutes more.  Invert pan as soon as taken from oven, allow air space under it and leave this way until Angel Food cake is cool.
