Cream Puff Recipe

Cream Puff Ingredients

  • 1cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 4 eggs

Directions for Cream Puffs

Heat water and add oil and salt.  Add flour all at once and beat rapidly.  Remove from heat and add unbeaten eggs, one at a time.  Beat hard after each egg, until mixture is shiny and smooth.  Drop by tablespoon on a cookie sheet.  Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes; reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 20 minutes.  Allow to cool and fill Cream Puffs with whipped cream.
Makes about 12 Cream Puffs.

Date Bread Recipe

Date Bread Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups dates
  • 1 egg


Directions for Date Bread

Clean, stone and cut dates, pour boiling water over them.  Cream melted butter and sugar, add well beaten egg, then alternately add flour and water which has been drained from dates, vanilla, salt and dates.  Pour in 2 well greased loaf pans and bake at 350 degrees for one hour.

Fruit Cake Recipe

Fruit Cake  Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. pitted dates
  • 1 can cherries
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 lb. walnut meats whole
  • 1 lb. brazil nut meats whole
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt

Directions for Fruit Cake

Put fruit and nut meats in large bowl first.  Then sprinkle over this the flour, sugar and baking powder.  Pour over this the well beaten eggs and mix well.  Bake in 2 large or 3 medium loaf pans about 1 hour at 300 degrees.
Makes 2 large or 3 medium Fruit Cakes.

Molasses Sticky Buns Recipe

Molasses Sticky Buns Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup scalded milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Directions for Molasses Sticky Buns

Combine milk, sugar, 1/3 cup butter and salt in bowl.  Dissolve yeast in warm water; add yeast, egg and 1 cup flour to milk mixture.  Beat until smooth.  Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough.  Turn onto floured surface and knead.  Place in a greased bowl; turn dough over to grease top.  Cover;  let rise until doubled in size.
Combine molasses, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/3 cup butter.  Heat until butter melts.  Spread mixture in 2 greased 9″ round cake pans.  Sprinkle with pecans.
Combine 1 cup brown sugar, raisins and cinnamon and set aside.
Divide dough in half.  Roll each half into 12 X 8″ rectangle.  Sprinkle with half of brown sugar mixture.  Roll up like a jelly roll, starting at long side.  Cut into 12 slices and arrange in cake pans.  Let rise until doubled.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.  Invert pans on plates and remove.
Makes 24 Molasses Sticky Buns.

Nut Bread Recipe

Nut Bread Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup nuts


Directions for Nut Bread

In a mixing bowl, beat egg.  Add sugar.  Add milk sifted flour with salt and baking powder.  Put mixture into loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until done.

Oatmeal Muffin Recipe

Oatmeal Muffin Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


Directions for Oatmeal Muffins

Soak the rolled oats and buttermilk together for one hour.  Mix together shortening, brown sugar and egg.  Sift the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.  Stir in alternately with oats and buttermilk.  Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes 12 Oatmeal Muffins.

Orange Bread Recipe

Orange  Bread Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons grated orange peel
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts


Directions for Orange Bread

Cream shortening and continue creaming while adding honey.  Add egg and beat well, then add orange peel.  Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.  Add orange juice and stir in walnuts.  Pour into a 9 X 5 X 3″ greased and wax-paper lined loaf pan.  Bake at 325 degrees for 50 – 55 minutes or until done.  Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing Orange Bread from pan.  After Orange Bread reaches room termperature, wrap and store overnight to blend flavors and ease for slicing.

Banana Bread Recipe

Banana Bread Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 medium bananas
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped dates (optional)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)


Directions for Banana Bread

Mix butter and sugar together, add eggs and beat well.  Mash the bananas and aded them to the mix.  Sift dry ingredients together, add to mixture beating in quickly.  Lightly flour dates and nuts and add them to the mixture.  Put into a greased loaf pan and let stand for 20 minutes, then bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

Bread Pudding Recipe

Bread Pudding Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 slices day old white bread, cubed
  • ground nutmeg

Directions for Bread Pudding

Beat milk, eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla.  Stir in cubed bread.  pour mixture into 1 quart greased baking dish.  Sprinkle nutmeg over top.  Put 1 inch hot water in a larger pan and set baking dish in it.
Bake 1 hour at 375 degrees.
Serve Bread Pudding hot or cold.

Butter Pecan Bread Recipe

Butter Pecan Bread Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 slightly beaten egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine


Directions for Butter Pecan Bread

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices.  Stir in sugar and pecans.  Combine egg, buttermilk and butter and add to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.  Stir into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until done.
Sandwich thin slices of Butter Pecan Bread with cream cheese and orange marmlade.
